Crown Bakery & Cafe Review

Visited this new bakery and cafe on Labour Day and boy was it crowded. Seating area in this cafe is very limited. Loved the decor of the cafe though - very colonial style (complete with black & white blinds & tiles). Don't forget to check out their crown-shaped lights hanging from the ceiling. Each table had a vase of purple flowers - a pretty prop for food instagrammers.

Ordered a Pear-fect Oolong which was quite fragrant - we could detect subtle hints of pear in it. Their latte was not bad but nothing extraordinary. Latte art fans will be disappointed at the unappealing latte art (or lack thereof).

The breads were good and not crazy expensive. We decided to try their specialty - the Hainanese Chicken Bread (baked with Hainanese Chicken Broth). It really tasted like a plate of chicken rice and there were bits of chicken scattered in it. The coolest part of all? The bread was served with spicy chicken rice chili.

We also ordered the French Baguette which was soft and fluffy and warm on the inside but crispy on the outside. Very buttery and fragrant - pretty good eating it on its own without any jam!

Service was a little slow (despite there being quite a handful of workers) - might be some teething issues since they are pretty new. I guess service speed and efficiency are likely to pick up once the workers gets the hang of it.
